Oeko-Tex certified shower caps

This shower cap is PFAS free, made from a waterproof fabric that can be purchased by the yard for other purposes.

Melbourne based The Laminated Cotton Shop uses laminated cotton to make shower caps with fun prints in three different sizes, including kids sizing. Their laminated cotton has a polyurethane or water-based urethane (depending on the fabric used) laminated to the cotton to make the fabric waterproof, flexible, and machine washable. They source fabrics that are CPSIA compliant, which indicates child safety, and OEKO-Tex certified, which can indicate the fabric is free from harmful chemicals like PFAS and BPA depending on the specific certification obtained. Drawing on fabrics from several different places, exact certifications and CPSIA compliance may vary by fabric manufacturer. You may want to inquire with them for more information if this is important to you. If you have a lot of hair or a larger than average head, you might want to size up.

I traced the pictured whale print fabric back to Seattle-based Splash Fabrics, which holds the OEKO-Tex Standard 100 certification for its fabrics. The OEKO-Tex Standard 100 certification is one of several OEKO-Tex certifications that ban PFAS. Splash Fabrics uses a water-based urethane laminate that has a matte appearance, unlike polyurethane laminate, which looks shiny. Splash Fabrics has a really neat origin story that you can read here.

Update June 2023: Found another cute OEKO-Tex 100 certified shower cap option made of linen on Etsy.
